A stranded dog mistaken for a ‘big pigeon’ on the roof of a house has been rescued

Firefighters came to the rescue after a very large dog strangely got stuck on the roof of a property in Thornton Cleveleys yesterday.

Someone should have gone to Specsavers as the French Bullmastiff on Wyre’s roof was reported to be a ‘big pigeon’, police said after being called to help fire crews rescue the stranded pooch.

The dog was reunited with its owner after being rescued by firefighters

The rescue team was called to the scene in West Drive, Thornton Cleveleys at 8.44pm yesterday.

It took about 20 minutes to help the very good boy down.

It’s unclear how he got up there in the first place, but judging by his face, the adorable dog seemed to be having a good time.

The dog was successfully reunited with the owner after being brought back from the roof to dry land.

Lancashire Roads Police said: “Report of a large pigeon on the roof of Wyre this evening, turned out to be a very large dog!

“Thankfully Lancashire Fire and Rescue did an amazing job saving the dog. Found with owner.”

The fire service added: “At 8.44pm on July 7, a Fleetwood fire engine along with the Blackpool aerial ladder platform attended an incident at West Drive, Thornton Cleveleys.

“The incident involved a dog trapped on the roof of a domestic property.

“Firefighters rescued the dog using the aerial ladder platform and remained at the scene for approximately twenty minutes.”
