Conor McGregor drops out of the richest athletes list after being No. 1 last year

Khamzat Chimaev has called out three of the UFC’s biggest stars in Conor McGregor, Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal for his next fight.

Rising star Chimaev, 28, has captured the attention of fight fans since his UFC debut two years ago. The Chechen suffered his toughest test yet in Gilbert Burns last month, edging out the Brazilian in the fight of the year.

Eager to book his next fight after his recent win, No. 3-ranked welterweight Chimaev posted a photo on Twitter of him, McGregor, Diaz and Masvidal. The cartoon sketch shows three of the fighters pointing gun fingers at each other as Diaz stands with his arms crossed.

Chimaev has exchanged words with McGregor and Diaz in the past, but not Masvidal. The Chechnya native claimed he once flew to Ireland to confront McGregor for his actions ahead of his 2018 grudge fight with now-retired UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Insulted by McGregor’s comments about Russia, Chimaev drove all the way to the airport before being locked up for eight hours and sent home. Chimaev also credited McGregor’s featherweight title win over Jose Aldo as the reason he started training in MMA.

Match leaks from UFC HQ recently showed Chimaev was penciled in to fight Diaz at UFC 276 on July 2. The fight, which was never announced as official, is now dead and buried and Diaz blamed the recently married Chimaev.

The American posted: “He had visa issues, overweight and now his b****a** is gone to get married instead of fighting wtf? Im trying to fight a real fighter as soon as possibly / July.” Chimaev laughed at Diaz’s claim, responding, “You’re funny, are you stoned? Looks like you smoked.”

Chimaev was warned by his old nemesis Burns not to go down the same path as McGregor and to stay focused on the fights. McGregor’s form in the UFC has plummeted in recent years as he has only had one win in his last four fights.

“Whether [Chimaev] continues on a good track, it’s because there are a lot of variables. Imagine the best guy in this scenario, with the guy doing the right job, training and focusing. This guy will be fine,” Burns told Canal Encrada.

“There’s also the Conor McGregor effect that happens to him, when the guy suddenly explodes with a lot of followers and endorsements and money. That will also have an effect and the guy will kind of go the other way. Everything as I’ve seen it’s kind of already happening.”
